Ugly Kid Joe is an American rock band from California, formed in 1990. The band’s name spoofs that of another band, Pretty Boy Floyd. Ugly Kid Joe’s sound includes a range of styles, including hard rock, funk metal and heavy metal.

The band became popular in the early 1990s, mixing satirical humor and heavy metal. The band toured the USA successfully several times, the second one opening for former Black Sabbath lead vocalist Ozzy Osbourne.

Ugly Kid Joe have released three full-length albums, two compilation albums and two EPs. Bicycle Wheels belongs to Motel California, their third and most recent studio album. Released in 1996, it was their last album before they disbanded in 1997 and reformed in 2010. It received lukewarm reviews and poor sales (and that was the reason for band’s split-up).

Bicycle wheels is a chant to living life with simplicity, stripped of all artifice, being the bicycle in itself the song motto “You never gonna slip, if you never lose the ground”.

The attached video was made public onto an Ugly Kid Joe forum site in 2005 and remained unreleased to the date.

Lyrics:

Life is to be lived on the positive tip
Never lose the ground
You never gonna slip
If you never lose the ground
Always draw the line
Never wear the frown
Should’ve got myself some bicycle wheels
Should’ve got myself some bicycle wheels
Should’ve got myself some bicycle wheels
On the wings of steel

There’s dinosaur’s in countries
Everyone that I’ve seen
There’s dinosaur’s in countries
If you know what I mean
I always keep a watch on the ever changing future
Doing what I want
And you could do what suits you
Should’ve got myself some bicycle wheels
Should’ve got myself some bicycle wheels
Should’ve got myself some bicycle wheels
On the wings of steel

I said throw your hands in the air
I like to see your armpit hair
Throw your hands in the air
I like to see your armpit hair
Life is to be lived on the positive tip
I’ll never lose the ground
You know I’m never gonna slip
Never gonna slip, cause I never lose the ground
Always draw the line
You know I never wear the frown.
Should’ve got myself some bicycle wheels
Should’ve got myself some bicycle wheels
Should’ve got myself some bicycle wheels
On the wings of steel
